Advent series

As we conclude our series, One True Gift, it is the sacrificial death of Jesus that now comes into view. Philippians 2 tells us that Jesus, the servant, became “obedient to death – even death on a cross” (Phil 2:8). What does it look like to have the ‘same attitude as this Jesus’? What impact should his death have on us as we prepare to celebrate his birth? How might the reality of the cross be the cause of great rejoicing this Christmas? How might this wonderful truth resonate at this time of year?

This Sunday there is also an opportunity to join together for our Trinity Carol Service, and the following Sunday we have our atmospheric lessons and carols service. There are many opportunities to invite family, friends, and those we know to join us over the next few days. In each of our services, we will be speaking of Jesus in ways designed especially for those who might not know him or who might want to get to know him better. The stunning thing is that the Jesus they will meet in the manger is the same Jesus who would go on to die as the Saviour of the world.

Refreshments will be served before and after the service this Sunday. Groups for children and young people will run for the last time this year, a livestream will be broadcast and prayer ministry will be available.

NB: For those of you who remember Jim Large he sadly passed away on Monday 9th December.

Engage

Last week, we started the first of two extra sessions, and considered how we might take joy in (together) having the midset of Jesus.

This week we continue picking up themes from Philippians Chapter 2 as we use the ‘One True Gift’ resource. We also thought recently about how we might make the most of Christmas, to see the good news of Jesus proclaimed amongst those we know and love. If you created some plans as a Small Group, do continue to talk together about them and how you are going to put them into action. Christmas is a wonderful opportunity to invite people into our homes, to share our lives and the message of Christmas. Do also continue to pray about those you hope to bring to some of our Christmas events.

ENGAGE will continue in the new year when we will begin looking at 1 Peter together, a letter all about how we ENGAGE with the world around us.

 Small Group Notes

Carols @ St John’s 6pm

This week sees the first of our Christmas services, so please do join us as we come together with the three other Trinity Churches for a Carol Service on Sunday evening at 6pm.

There will be readings from members of the Truro community as well as music led by an orchestra. There will also be refreshments served at the end of the service. We’d love to see you all there so bring along your friends and family to this festive event.

St Kea Carol Service

On Sunday 22nd December at 6.30pm we have our Lessons and Carols Service at St Kea. There will be a choir and live band leading us through an evening of carols, songs and readings.

Now is a good time to be thinking of those you could invite to this special event.

Old Kea Candlelit Carols

Come and join us at Old Kea Church for our traditional candlelit Carol Service.3.30pm on Monday 23rd December.

Refreshments will be served afterwards.

Last Call for Mince Pies

At each of our Christmas services our refreshment team serve mince pies. If you are able to, please would you consider donating a box of mince pies to use at these events and bring them to church. Many Thanks.

Hope Explored - three week course

In our recent sermon series we've been thinking about having confidence in God's powerful word and the assurance that we will find good soil. We plan to run a very engaging and well-presented course called 'Hope Explored' in January. Click the image above to watch a trailer

Could you:

  • Start praying for someone who you might bring along?

  • Help us with the running of this course?

We have set aside the evenings of Thursday 16th, 23rd and 30th January, but we're keen to run the course relatively frequently so please do let us know if there is a need for it to repeat in a different time slot/format for anyone unable to make these sessions.

Eco tip from our Creation Care Team

Food waste is a big problem, particularly around Christmas. 18 million tonnes of CO2 are generated by UK homes from the wasted consumable food and drink each year. To find out how your household could reduce food waste, take the quick 'Choose what you'll use' quiz and receive tailored advice.

Weekly Prayer Points

Each week there will be a few things for our church life and church family that we can join in praying for:

1. Father God, as You send us out into the world to spread Your Word this Christmas time please equip us with all the gifts we need to share Your Gospel.
Please help us to know what You have given us to use for You, and grace in our heart to gladly serve in Your Kingdom.

2. Compassion UK - Father God, we bring before you all those who’ve had to flee their homes due to persecution and conflict. May they find loving communities
where they can settle well and find healing from trauma.
May they come to experience your peace. Loving Heavenly Father, we pray that the people they meet will be kind and compassionate. We lift them to you
and ask for your protection over them.

3. This week we pray for the Children’s work in our Church. We thank you for all our Sunday Club leaders who organise, prepare and lead the sessions each week. We pray for all our children in the our church and we ask that they are blessed this Christmas with your Love and Peace.
