The Man with Complete Authority

Our culture struggles with authority figures. We are nervous of people who are trying to gain power for themselves, and we know the pain of leaders who have abused the authority they have. So this week, we are in for a surprise – because we are going to meet a man, a King, who has been given all authority – and we are going to see that his use of authority is unlike any other; it is beautifully pure. Now, in our day and age, that is at the same time both challenging and deeply attractive.

So join us as we continue our new series - The King and His Kingdom. Let’s meet Jesus, the King with all authority. Let’s explore together what it looks like to come under his rule and to see how his authority impacts the world.

Refreshments will be served both before and after the service and young peoples groups will continue.

The Heart Of Our Calling

We are considering what it looks like to live in these ‘last days’ of salvation history as those who are ‘in the world’ but not ‘of the world’ (John 17:14-15). In seeking to live for the praise of God’s glorious grace (Eph 1:6) we don’t want to withdraw from the world around us and hide away, but we also want to ensure that we are those who are different enough from the world around us so that people glimpse God’s grace at work in us.

So, what does it really look like to live in this third phase of human history? How should we prioritise and concern ourselves in this world? How do we ENGAGE with the world while avoiding being shaped by it? How can we show the world Jesus in all that we say and do?

These are the questions we’ll be exploring together in our new discipleship initiative. This year, we will learn how we can be fully ENGAGED in the world in the way God desires us to be. We are excited about this journey and the transformation it might bring to our lives and we pray, the lives of those around us.

Small Groups meet most weeks during term time and are one of the main ways in which we support one another, pray for each other and allow our lives to be shaped by God’s word. The start of the new term is a great time to join a small group if you are not in one already. St Kea Small Groups meet on different days and times. Do talk to Sian Goddard (our small group lead) or Hugh Barne if you would like to find out more and get involved.

 SESSION ONE

Churchyard Gardening - This Saturday

Please join us this Saturday (14th September) between 9am - 12pm to come and look after their beautiful Churchyard. No gardening experience needed. Please wear sturdy footwear and bring gardening gloves and pruning equipment if you have them.

Old Kea - This Sunday - 3.30pm

Please join us this week inside Old Kea Church where Malcolm Henderson will be leading our service looking at “The faith of Thomas the Apostle”.

Then later that day at 7pm (start at 7.30pm) come back to Old Kea and hear Mark’s Gospel read in full. (see more details below)

Mark’s Gospel - This Sunday

As we prepare for our autumn series in Mark, please join us at Old Kea Church from 7pm on Sunday 15th September as we listen to Mark's Gospel from start to end.

Enjoy listening to God's word read. Books of the bible would often have been presented aurally, in one sitting. Hearing them in this way is really helpful when thinking about the shape of a book, it's context and keys messages.

Refreshments will be served beforehand.

Women’s Breakfast

Please do join us for our next Trinity Women’s Breakfasts at St Kea Church from 8.30-10am. We’ll be looking at six ways in which God is different from us and exploring together why that is a good thing. Do come along for friendship, teaching and discussion over a delicious breakfast

Trelander Festival Thanks

Thank you for all those who supported the Trelander Summer Festival in August! We had a brilliant day with around 80 people gathering for crafts, sports, live music, water slide, bouncy castles and a BBQ. The Dockyard team hosted an interactive show over lunch, sharing the gospel message through games and a pie in the face! We had great feedback from our visitors who commented how valuable this is as there is not much happening for families over the summer. We look forward to planning future fun days with you!

Evangelical Fellowship - 5th October

"Given how much has happened over the past few General Synods, as part of the Living in Love and Faith process, the Truro Diocesan Evangelical Fellowship have  invited the Rev’d Dr Andrew Goddard to come and speak on the 5th October at 7pm to give a 'LLF Roadmap'. Andrew is very well placed to give an overview and answer questions that people might have.

Andrew is Assistant Minister at St James the Less, Pimlico, Tutor in Ethics at Ridley Hall in Cambridge, and Westminster Theological Centre. He is a member of the Church of England Evangelical Council (CEEC) and was a member of the Co-Ordinating Group of LLF and the subgroup looking at Pastoral Guidance.

As before there will be time for catching up with each other, sung worship, and time to pray for the Diocese and the wider church. Please click on the picture above to sign up.

Evangelism Conference

On Wednesday 16th October we will be hosting ‘The Evangelism Conference 2024’ at St Kea Church from 10am - 4pm. It will be a day conference to encourage and equip church leaders, evangelists and anyone with a passion for evangelism. Read below for more information.

The mission the Lord has given to His church is wonderful and glorious. We know that we should have hearts on fire for Jesus and for the lost, all too easily they grow cold. And even then there is ‘mission heat’ in our churches, we don’t always know how to direct the energy and enthusiasm for evangelism in the most effective ways.

Our main speaker Dave Jensen will help us think biblical and practically about keeping the church on mission with hearts on fire for the glorious work the Lord has entrusted to us.

Join us for a day of stimulating talks, real-life stories, practical application and true gospel encouragement that will help us stay on mission in our churches.

There is an early bird ticket option which can be purchased from £12 before the 20th September, so if you would like to come please sign up by clicking on the link below and selecting St Kea Church as a venue.

Weekly Prayer Points

Each week there will be a few things for our church life and church family that we can join in praying for:

1. As we continue in our new series this week in Mark please help us consider how our lives might be impacted a fresh in the good news that Jesus is the King.

2. This week we pray for our mission partners at Compassion UK. We particularly pray for your blessing on those who are graduating from the Compassion programme this year. We ask that you’d lead them to stable employment and the right opportunities. We pray they would stay connected to their local churches, and that you would continue your good work in them.

3. Thank you God for the congregation at St Johns Church, Rev Will Harwood and his family. We pray for them as they start the new series in Mark. Thank you for the provision of their Messy Church which starts this Sunday and for the families who come to it.
