Advent Series Continues

As we draw closer to Christmas, this Sunday we continue our Advent Series – One True Gift. We are reflecting on what it might look like to have ‘the same attitude’ as Jesus, and this week we zoom in on Jesus, the servant of all.

There is no reason why Jesus, the King of Heaven, should stoop to serve us. There is no reason why he should serve us so fully; we are amazed at the extent of his service, making himself nothing as he hangs on the cross. What would it look like for us to imitate Jesus? How might living this way bring us joy and satisfaction? How might we serve others this Christmas time?

Join us this Sunday as our series continues.  Refreshments will be served before and after the service and children’s groups will continue. Prayer ministry will also be available after the service and Livestream goes live from 10.15am.

Engage - Christmas!

Last week, we finished our reflections in Mark’s gospel and concluded the first part of ENGAGE. ENGAGE will continue in the new year when we will begin looking at 1 Peter together, a letter all about how we ENGAGE with the world around us. We also thought last week about how we might make the most of Christmas, to see the good news of Jesus proclaimed amongst those we know and love. If you created some plans as a Small Group, do continue to talk together about them and how you are going to put them into action. Christmas is a wonderful opportunity to invite people into our homes, to share our lives and the message of Christmas. Do also continue to pray about those you hope to bring to some of our Christmas events.

This week is the first of two extra sessions that some Small Groups might like to use this Advent. Each ‘Christmas Extra’ picks up themes from Philippians Chapter 2 as we use the ‘One True Gift’ resource. It is not too late to get hold of an electronic copy of ‘One True Gift’ which includes a daily reflection. Purchase your online copy here

This first session follows the introductory video from last Sunday and helps us think about what might make us joyful this Christmas.

 Small Group Notes

Carols @ St John’s

The first of our Christmas services is nearly upon us, so please do join us as we come together with the 3 other Trinity Churches for a wonderful Carol Service on Sunday 15th December @ 6pm.

There will be readings from members of the Truro community as well as music led by the an orchestra. There will also be refreshments served at the end of the service. We’d love to see you all there so bring along your friends and family to this festive event.

Mince Pies Needed

At each of our Christmas services our refreshment team serve mince pies. If you are able to, please would you consider donating a box of mince pies to use at these events and bring them to church over the next couple of weeks. Many Thanks.

Hope Explored - Three week course

In our recent sermon series we've been thinking about having confidence in God's powerful word and the assurance that we will find good soil. We plan to run a very engaging and well-presented course called 'Hope Explored' in January. Click the image above to watch a trailer

Could you:

  • Start praying for someone who you might bring along?

  • Help us with the running of this course?

We have set aside the evenings of Thursday 16th, 23rd and 30th January, but we're keen to run the course relatively frequently so please do let us know if there is a need for it to repeat in a different time slot/format for anyone unable to make these sessions.

Weekly Prayer Points

Each week there will be a few things for our church life and church family that we can join in praying for:

1. Father God, we thank you for the opportunities this time of year gives to tell those around us about you. Help us not to shy away from your truths, speaking the gospel message, and help us to invite friends and family to the upcoming Christmas events.

2. We give thanks for the work of CAP this week. Thank you that through the CAP/Lanterns Christmas appeal they are able to create Christmas hampers for families to enjoy, whilst also enabling their families to provide gifts for their own children at Christmas.

3. Please pray for Truro Foodbank as they introduce the Reversed Calendar Appeal this Advent. We pray that people will donated over Christmas so that in January they have good supplies to offer to families who are in need.
